THE PLATITUDES

A Romance Play by Joshua William Gelb

"Love. There's that word again."

Plot Summary:
Once a legitimate Casanova, the womanizer Errol has now been exiled to the suburbs, left to pilfer petty sums from desperate hags and delusional housewives. Determined to recapture the splendor of his golden days, Errol sets his sights on Barbara, a conservative young woman, recently engaged to a hulking military-man. But when Errol, in order to gain Barbara's trust, manipulates the affections of her brother, Peter, the line between scheming and loving becomes forever blurred, devastating the lives of everyone involved.

A hilarious and poignant morality tale, this modern distortion of the Don Juan myth is an absurd fusion of eighteenth century verse and contemporary sexual values.
