WATER MUSIC

A Disaster Play in Three Acts by Joshua William Gelb

"There's a popular myth in modern academic circles, of an old historian and the sinking city."

Plot Summary:
The religious claim it is the Lord's bidding; the practical believe it scientific fact; the skeptics allege it a passing phase... But the truth is: The island of Pia Khora is sinking, and between ancient religious doctrine and poor public policy, there is nothing that can be done to save a single soul.

From the remains of a distant island, lost to the sea in a distant time, comes the epic story of Pia Khora, its city, its people, and its untimely end. From old court records, receipts, diary entries and even fictional romance novels, an old historian pieces together an account of Khora's last month, invoking all manners of characters, from the royal family, to the basest members of Khoran society, to the mysterious stranger who may be the island's only hope.

A vast epic for the stage replete with intrigue, comedy and romance, Water Music uncovers, from the bottom of the ocean, the hopes and fears of a people headed straight for disaster.
